Volveré pronto

Like the aging members of a 90's pop group I shall rise forth from the rancid ash of an ITV reality show, and burn bright once more.

Stick around won't you?

Whilst suffering through insomina

A few nights ago, whilst being unable to sleep at all I came across the now extinct (except for the online edition, of course) Dummy Magazine.
I loved the only 2 editions I ever got round to buying and even after a good 2/3 years of separation (granted, only by the growing pile of i-Ds that are building on top of them) I still have a big love for this brilliant example of a purely music based magazine.

Being young and London-hungry (new phrase I just coined, meaning 'The yearning of one, stuck in the Wiltshire countryside, lusting after the bright lights and big city") I snapped up the copies of Klaxons, Lady Sov and Test Icicles (who are still sorely missed in this house, granted only by me).
Here are the 3 covers (the other side of the Klaxons edition is a photo of Carl Barat.... yawn.)
(Photo credits in the photos to Dummy Magazine)
I say, "Bring back paper-based magazines!", there's not much else that's quite as satisfying as finding a new edition or even a new magazine on the shelf at Borders. Although e-magazine editions seem to be all the rage, it's not quite as comforting as being able to add to the stacks of those that seem to cover most surfaces in my area.
Also on this note, bring back Marmalade -For good looking, smart people-.
peace and love.
*note: In the last few minutes I have found out, via Wikipedia (where else?), that Marmalade is due for a revival after 'maternity leave' this year, can I get a "Hell Yeah!" (Is it OK that I'm far more excited about this than I am about The Face's revival?) *

Exam nerves and pressure = A shopping excuse for a man of leisure

Since the last time I blogged I have been crushed by the severe weight of countless unmerciful exams (A2 Biology, Chemistry and English Lit), but small charity shop sprees and 5 minute eBay scans have gone someway in curing me of this ailment.
1)Beige suede lace-ups, 50p. Salvation Army, Swindon

Just the kind I planned to buy for at least 100 times more from YMC (You Must Create). I have a big love for the local Salvation Army, they've served me well.

2)2nd pair of shoes:- Patent white TOPMAN 'Gladiator' sandals

These go someway in satisfying my previously mentioned love for the Raf Simons X Doc Martins collab. After a few funny looks out in town today I've realised they are the perfect summer sandal, blowing any ideas of the flip-flop clean outta the water. The patent leather is reminiscent of Jil Sander or Raf, just unusual enough to be cool without being odd.

3) This is not strictly clothing, but deer God it's brilliant. (See what I did there, more than just a pretty face this one )

This throw was also a Salvation Army find, tucked up at the back between the old prams and early 90s curtains. Reminds me of the one of those Disney feel-good cartoons in which a baby animal is lost and somehow finds its way home, usually with the help of a grumpy bear and a friendly pigeon (you know the general equation).
Also, it was just too good to pass up, what with the link to Buckstyle and the previously mentioned 'Bucky' necklace from Elsiebelle

I'm happy, and now, back to the revision.
peace out.

The perfect type of black shoe

From wandering round both actual and virtual streets (via streetstyle blogs) there's a certain type and form of shoe that has caught my eye and captured my heart (I get over emotional when it comes to shoes...)
I have no idea of the style or specific name of the shoe (I'm not a fashion student nor am I a shoe expert...yet), however I have come to just call them 'The Perfect Black Shoe'.
Some examples are in order I feel...
Everyone seems to own a pair of these types of shoes, most seem to be of vintage origin, I have a similar pair but in silver from Topman (that was the first place I looked for a black pair).

I may be being stupid as they may be stocked in the most obvious place, but try as I might I can't find them for love nor money.
The example on top is an extract from a streetstyle shot from The Style Scout (a London streetstyle blog). The lower example is from OakNYC
an online boutique with a very tempting selection of clothes and shoes, the best being these Chronicles of Never Mono black 2 shoe, which are $248 and sold out in my size.
I shall keep searching, perhaps a few summer trips to London will yield a pair (much more fun than hours of futile eBaying...)

Think of me as a worthy cause...

In the middle of the tumult of exam and revision pressures, between the bouts of WWI poetry and Benzene Rings, I give myself 15 minutes in which to go virtual window shopping. The current list is worryingly long, and so depresses me by highlighting the fact that I have $0                                             (Credit for photos as per the websites named)

All donations towards the cause would be greatly appreciated.

*N.B.: The 'Robot' Shirt is $20 not $30, bargain.

Friday 5 June 2009

i am a terrible excuse for a blogger.

So I've decided that I always intended to be fashionably late on my second installment, always the best way to be really.
(In reality I've had a crippling about of revision and exams, so much so I'm almost despairing)
To get me through these dark days I've been getting a boost of optimism from Golden Silvers (The perfect clash of Vampire Weekend and The Maccabees), and Peter Bjorn and John "Got Nothing To Worry About", which is a brilliant
song that I always manage to end up singing under my breath when entering/leaving the exam hall. (Hope it lives up to its promise...)
Also dragging me out from the revision mire of papers and textbooks are new purchases of the fabric variety.
One being my new Diesel Hi-tops (£20 TKMAXX)
I'd been stalk
ing these shoes for a good 3 weeks, as they seemed the more affordable version of the utterly amazing Diesel Glam Rocks. (I searched and searched for a cheaper pair of these but to no avail).
These have a similar large tongue and have the same monochrome pallet as the much desired Rick Owens Hi-Tops [which one day I SHALL own]

The other being this '1940s fly-away' jumper, brought to my attention by Stylesalvage, a blog which never ceases to impress and amaze me with their menswear finds and knowledge.

The online store The Good Shop is pretty much a treasure trove, the bambi-esque shorts are really something quite amazing, but alas I am not an XS gentleman (n)

Any who, wish me luck in my next series of exams (I'll need it)
Bring on the summer.
